Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police are looking for a man suspected in a June shooting on Salt Springs Road.

According to police, 47-year-old Wilfred Roman was shot in the stomach during a dispute over money. From the Salt Springs Road location, Roman staggered to East Genesee and Croly where he collapsed. After he recovered, police say Roman identified 26-year-old Carl Newton as the shooter.

“The victim said it started out as a verbal dispute over a small amount of money owed between the two of them…then escalated to a physical fight and the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim,” said Sgt. John Savage of the Fugitive Task Force.

Newton – also known as C-Newt – has a criminal history. He’s known to frequent addresses on Syracuse’s South and East Sides, including Columbus, Robinson and Bruce streets.

“He’s obviously dug in pretty deep and hiding out and we would like some assistance in locating him,” Savage said.

Newton is wanted for assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Anyone with information on Newton’s whereabouts should call police at (315) 442-5230.
